Toy Story Land is a big part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and it’s about to get some BIG changes!
Not long ago, Disney announced plans for a new shop AND a restaurant, but all we know right now is that they should be opening sometime in 2022. Considering that we’re over halfway through 2022 at this time, we’re wondering when Disney will announce official opening dates! Today we got a bit of a clue about one of these Toy Story Land projects, so here’s what we know.
Jessie’s Trading Post is a NEW merchandise location coming soon to Toy Story Land, with Disney describing it as a “playset tucked away in the attic.” Disney hasn’t shared a ton of information about this spot but it sounds like a gift shop to us, especially considering Toy Story Land has very few shopping locations.
We suspect that Jessie’s Trading Post will be located near the exit of Toy Story Mania, where a small Toy Story-themed store was located previously. This spot has been closed for a while now and the exit queue has also been diverted, seemingly due to construction.
We’ve seen some transformation inside the exit queue, with new painting and lighting installed. The location for the previous Toy Story Mania shop has been closed, but here’s the before of the area near the old store…
…and here’s the after, as of July 8th, 2022.
Interestingly, we noticed that a permit was recently filed by Walt Disney Imagineering for construction at the Toy Story Mania address. The permit was filed for the purpose of “install[ing] set elements,” and because Toy Story Mania is not undergoing refurbishment at this time, it may be reasonable to conclude that this construction permit could be for Jessie’s Trading Post.
Disney has not yet shared an official opening date for Jessie’s Trading Post, but with this permit recently filed it likely means that they’re moving forward with construction! We’ll be watching closely for more updates.
Roundup Rodeo BBQ is another location coming soon to Toy Story Land, with this spot being a new barbecue restaurant featuring a setting that transports guests to Andy’s play area, with toys, cardboard cut-outs, games, and even a rodeo arena!
Like Jessie’s Trading Post, Roundup Rodeo BBQ is scheduled to open in 2022, but we don’t yet know the official opening date. It was actually originally scheduled to open in 2020, but due to pandemic-related closures, it was delayed until 2022.
While the new restaurant has mostly been behind tall construction walls, we got to see a different perspective back in 2020 thanks to an Orlando pilot.
Inside the restaurants, guests will be able to dine inside Andy’s play set, with “rodeo festivities” taking place throughout their meal. At this time, we just need to wait until Disney releases an official opening date!
And one other spot, Woody’s Lunch Box, is also undergoing some construction. Disney has not shared what could be changing and we haven’t been able to see beyond shrubs, but it appears to be located in the shaded seating area.
Woody’s Lunch Box is a popular quick service spot where you can get favorite dishes like Totchos (tater tot nachos) and Lunch Box Tarts, but it’s not exactly known for having the best seating options. We’re kind of hoping this could expand the seating area a bit more!
We’ll be watching closely for more updates and announcements regarding all these Toy Story Land projects, so stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news and updates!
